A few weeks back we added Businessweek’s voice to the “LightSquared vs. The World” spat, so of course the graphics desk had something arcane and technical to throw in. Well that was my preferred course, but permanently fantastic art director Cindy Hoffman helped me pare it down to something that’d be interesting to…others.

It leaves out the larger regulatory dispute, mostly, and Lightsquare’s side of the story: why shouldn’t the GPS companies be forced to accept a 0.001% chance of interference? Why can’t they adapt and shield their electronics better? But what are we, journalists or something? Anyone asks, I’m just the shapes and lines guy.

This is why some weeks we feel as if we’d done 100 graphics some weeks, and end up with six in the magazine. Drafts, drafts, drafts!
